Text Chat Rooms
Text chatting may sound “as old as the hills”; but we think a good chat room is essential to a great conference experience. What makes for a great text chat room?At minimum, all of these features are necessary.
+ Easy entry where no registration is required
+ Prior to entry the opportunity to provide a profile page, most likely a url. (please view this page for an example
+ Automatic archive feature
+ Free
+ reliable source that does not slow down because of heavy loads in the room
+ allows “private” messages between the chatters
Some years ago we used a text chat that had the capability of machine translations…One could post in English and viewers could select the language they wanted to read or respond in. Very, very sweet.
NOTE: Smart moderators will keep one eye on the test chat room as a good gauge to the interest of the speakers…if you see a bunch of people saying bye-bye, you better haul the speaker from the podium.
