Timetables — Index pages –Schedules - Rounding the Mark

Let me begin by the request that we organizers are clear with respect to the words “timetable”, “index page” and schedule; however it may well be that as a result of our talks about this important subject that “we” will decide that we can use a single term, even though there may well be several different timetables, or index pages or schedules. The purpose of this post is to make sure we are all on the same page with respect to terminology.
Index Page: In the past, I have considered this a Web page that had the least amont of “schedule” information on it. Organized by Region, it would have as few as a three or four links, each one of which would lead to the start time of presentations within the Region — and a brief, very brief description of the presenter and topic, plus “standard” links that lead back to the Home Page — or other pages vital to the undertaking — such as theĀ  South Pacific Schedule. In an ideal world, each time we entered left an old region and entered a new one, this Index Page would go up and be reached from bfranklin.edu.

Schedules and Timetables seem to represent the same thing. I believe we should select one term for the other. I like ‘timetables” because this event is linear and more like traveling on a rairoad…with stops in London, Paris, Berlin, Warsaw…what time do we get to Moscow?

Rounding the Mark: A racing sailor’s term, and a good one that designates the “mark” where we enter the new Region. Whether on timetables or schedules or Index pages, I think we should highlight the “time” — ten minutes before the Rounding the Mark and ten minutes after it.

The time to reach each “Mark” is set, mostly in concrete and can be viewed in the middle of this page
