We live in a Google-ized, globalized world made tiny by affordable communication tools that can only be described as wizardly. Electronic mail is as common as the phone. So too are visits to web sites in numbers that were unimaginable only a few years ago. The blogosphere is growing at an even faster rate. You can download movies, music, files and photos in a minutes, if not seconds. You can apply for a job, get a loan, find a long lost relative or a brand new girlfriend. All with a few mouse clicks.

There are auto responders, wiki's, viki's, podcasters, streaming video, streaming audio, plus a zillion different platforms that allow easy use to take surveys, administer examinations, deliver courses from thousands of fully accredited universities from the Harvard Yard to New Delhi.

It's all amazing and we are working hard to use these tools to communicate better. ...not just with other Beta Iota Alumni, but with undergraduates and Sigs all over the planet.

A few thoughts -----

First, it's obvious that any collegian who doesn't get a good handle on how to use Web technology isn't going to go very far -- no matter what field he enters. Many Alumni have the skills and the know-how to help them -- and can do so over theNet (and over the phone).

Let's see what we can do to put in place programs that will help them for a lifetime.

Second, we are working on platforms which will allow many features not now on this site. They include the ability to take credit cards, easily upload photos, automatically answer most of your questions, send robust newsletters, all at a fraction of the cost if this were to be done by "old fashioned" methods.

Please book mark this page and return here from time to time. Good things are coming especially if there are folks out there in position to provide help. Please contact John Hibbs. Feel free to contact John the old fashioned way, by phone (858) 731 0832.
